Wandering through Wilmington

Saturday, November 14, 2015

Today I spent the day roaming the streets of downtown Wilmington.  The weather was perfect for exploring the streets and catching a bite to eat.  Every store now is filled with boots, sweaters, and the most amazing scented candles! After spending a few hours meandering through the shops, I discovered the cutest little boutique called Tusc.  Just one step into the store and I immediately felt like I was in the summertime out West.  It has a super loving, welcoming, and free spirit vibe.  All the clothing is flowy and super bohemian which is so my style! Definitely stopping by again soon.

Feeling a little hungry, we stopped by this new Mexican food restaurant and bar called Beer Barrio.  They have tons of beer on tap and a delicious menu full of tacos and burritos! I ordered a delicious chicken taco, but what I loved most about it was that outside the hard shell there was guac and a soft shell wrapped around it- so yummy! Pretty sure I would eat there everyday if I could!

On our way out we couldn't pass up grabbing some Kilwin's Ice Cream! It seriously so irresistible.  All in all it was a perfect day in Wilmington.  It's finally starting to get a little chillier, so I was super excited break out my fav booties and scarf! Hopefully you all get a chance to go out soon and see all the wonderful things downtown Wilmington has to offer!

When it feels like summer in November...

Saturday, November 7, 2015

It's hard to believe it's already November, especially on days like today where it reached about 80 degrees.  Fall in Wilmington is definitely different than most other cities I would say.  Besides the occasional rainy days, it still feels like summer! Other people may complain that there isn't football at my school, but I'm sure not worried about it when I'm catching a tan on the sand in the middle of autumn! Today was a great day to lay out, but I had a few errands to run, so I threw on this cute and comfy romper from Urban Outfitters.  I love it because it has 3/4 sleeves so when I'm inside it keeps me warm.  I also love how versatile it is- I could wear it to class with some sandals or out to lunch with some boots and a hat like I am wearing in the picture.  Rompers like this are definitely something to look for this fall if you live in a warm city like mine!

Be Present

Sunday, November 1, 2015

"You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment. Fools stand on their island opportunities and look toward another land. There is no other land; there is no other life but this, or the like of this." - Henry David Thoreau

Stress and anxiety is something I’m sure we all struggle with daily. This past week was particularly hard for me. With multiple tests, meetings, and my absolute best friend in the world upset with me, it was difficult to make it through. During class and at work I would just spend the entire time worrying about what I had to get done. It got to the point where I was so stressed about what was going to happen next I couldn't focus on what was actually happening in the moment.

Thursday I was sitting in my room studying and I just couldn’t think anymore. So I decided just stop, put everything down, close my eyes, and breathe. I took deep breaths of good energy in and exhaled all my worries and negativity. Within just a minute, I already felt a weight being lifted off my shoulders. It was then I realized how important it is to just take a breath. By shifting my focus to the present, I instantly felt so much happier and alive. It’s amazing what an impact simply taking a second to breathe have.

Doing this exercise made me realize how I should apply it to my daily life. By being present in every situation, it will make everything so much easier. The only thing you can control is your own thoughts, feelings, and actions.  This week I will go into the mindset of being present and positive.  The only moment we truly have is right here and right now- so embrace it!

My latest obsession: ROMPERS!

Monday, June 15, 2015

The sun is out and that means it's time to throw on outfits that are light, breezy, and easy! Therefore rompers are the perfect piece to rock this season! Everywhere I go I see tons of rompers in cute and colorful patterns.  The best part?  It's such a versatile piece- wear it during the day, at night, or even at the beach! The one I'm currently wearing at Carolina Beach is from Forever 21.  They have a ton of different and rompers so I would definitely recommend hitting it up so you can add a romper to your summer wardrobe!

Soundtrack to my Life

Thursday, June 11, 2015

So this post is kind of different, but I really wanted to switch it up a little! This past semester in my IMC class we had to write about what we would put on the soundtrack to our "brand" if we had one.  I thought this was an interesting activity because it made me really think about what my "personal brand" was.  A personal brand is basically the qualities and attributes that make you- you!  When thinking about what I would put if I had a soundtrack to my brand I had to not only think about songs I enjoyed, but songs that really showcased my values and who I am as a person.

The first song that came to mind is by one of my favorite artists, John Mayer.  His song called "No Such Thing" is a song that I have listened to all throughout my teenage years and growing up.  It is about not conforming to people's standards and living life the way you want to live.  This song fits who I am as a brand because I feel that it is important to embrace who you are and be yourself no matter what people may say about it.  To me, it is important to stay true to who you are and do what makes you happy because at the end of it all, your happiness is all that matters!

No Such Thing - John Mayer

The next song I knew I needed to include on the soundtrack of my brand would be "Hakuna Matata" from The Lion King.  Although I am not a warthog nor a prairie dog I relate to the message of the song and definitely live by it everyday.  In life we can choose to hide away in fear, worried about every little thing that can go wrong or we can simply go with the flow.  Instead of spending every second of my life worrying about my mistakes I learn and grow from them.  Like Timon says, it's a problem free philosophy!

Finally what would a soundtrack of my brand even be if there wasn't a Beyonce song on it? "Run the World (Girls)" by the Queen B is a song that really personifies me as a woman in college.  The lyrics in the song are all about women empowerment and female success.  As a member of a sorority, student employee, and Communication Studies major I strive everyday to not only do my best, but inspire others to do their best as well.  By inspiring other women to suceed and reach their full potential I truly believe we can change the world.  Who run the world? GIRLS!
These are just a few of my favorite songs that I feel truly epitomize me.  I wish I could add more, but I'm afraid the list could go on forever!! Hopefully this inspires you to think about your "personal brand" and what values and qualities make up who YOU are! What songs would be on the soundtrack to the soundtrack of your brand??

Everyday is an opportunity

Thursday, June 4, 2015

"Every morning, we get a chance to be different.  A chance to change.  A chance to be better.  Your past is your past.  Leave it there.  Get on with the future part."

Sometimes it seems like our dreams and goals may be impossible to reach.  There's always something that is holding us back or bringing us down and we aren't ever really satisfied with life.  Doubtful thoughts can cloud our minds and deter us from achieving our goals.
Everyone makes mistakes and has bad days, and that's ok.  Sometimes sh*t just happens, but we can't let that get in the way of our path to success and happiness.

What needs to be remembered is that we just have to simply embrace the day and make the most of it.  As unattainable as it may seem to get back on the path of where you want to go in life, you just got to put one step in front of the other and put yourself out there.  Accept that the past is in the past.  Eliminate any grudges or negativity you may have.  Nobody and nothing needs to be in your life that isn't helping you grow.

Head into each day with a smile on your face and the mindset that good will come.  The power of a positive mind can change more than you can imagine.  One just has to remember to let go and let whatever may happen- happen.  If you open up your mind who knows what wonderful opportunities may come!

Time for summer style!

Sunday, May 10, 2015

Hello lovelies!

Summer is finally here and that means it's time for new looks!  A few things that are definitely going to be essential for this summer are:
  • cute sunnies
  • fun hats
  • lacy bralettes
  • festival inspired pieces
Today I thought I would share with you guys my look of the day which is inspired by some summer trends!  I'm feeling very T Swift in my hat and sunglasses- accessories that are a must for a put together summer look.  For today's outfit I am wearing a lightweight bohemian printed sundress from Wet Seal with a bralette from Urban Outfitters underneath.  Bralettes are absolutely a staple item for your closet.  All my friends and I have tons from Urban, Aerie, and Target! I tossed on some black sandals and a few of my favorite bracelets to complete the look!  Hope you all keep these trends in mind while shopping for the season and have a wonderful weekend!

Create Yourself

Tuesday, April 28, 2015

Life isn't about finding yourself. It's about creating yourself.

Sometimes I feel lost and like I have no idea what is going on with my life.  I constantly wonder if what I'm doing is right and if it will lead me in the right direction.  Though when I do this, I lose sight of what is going on right in front of me. Then I realize I'm not lost- I'm right here.

Life isn’t about finding yourself, because you are literally already here and alive. It’s about creating yourself and growing from each and every experience. Life is about creating happiness and being the best person you can be everyday.

Challenge yourself to begin everyday with a clear mind and positive attitude.  Embrace everything about yourself.  Embrace your flaws, your weirdness, your passions, your thoughts, and everything you do.  There is only one you in the world so make it your goal to strive to do your personal best and happiness will be sure to come!

Getting ready for spring

Sunday, April 5, 2015

Stumbled across some beautiful tulips on my way out of Trader Joes the other morning.  A little reminder that beauty is everywhere! Warm weather is just around the corner - and so are my allergies!
